The plot centers on Cecil Peachtree, played by legendary actor Malcolm McDowell, an educated schoolteacher traveling to the town of Fortune to begin a new position. After missing his train, Peachtree forms an uneasy alliance with an outlaw named Jedidiah Dooley, portrayed by James Paxton. The two agree to a deal: Dooley will escort the teacher to his destination in exchange for the stipend awaiting Peachtree upon his arrival.
